The South Canterbury Museum’s development of a new museum for Timaru, combined with the historic Theatre Royal, is gaining pace. The planned opening date is planned to be mid-2025.

It’s a major development which will see a new public facing museum on Stafford Street, for exhibitions, education and public programmes, while the current building on Perth Street will be retained for research, collection storage, work and exhibition preparation spaces.
