Christchurch City Council Archives Update

Murray Williams - Our 1st Reading Room customer 3rd Nov 2009

Last time I posted we had been in the process of moving the collection out of Archives NZ and we weren’t yet ready for visitors.  A couple of months have now past and although we have had a lot of hurdles to jump over we are in a much more organised state with the majority of our material in its correct location. Our reading room is now open and we have had a handful of customers through – attached is a photo of our first customer Murray Williams from the Papanui Heritage Group.

Unfortunately when the CCC website changed it deleted our new set of webpages dedicated to our collection and containing links to a number of our finding aids. We are still waiting for those to go back up in the new year as it has decreased our customer numbers and I’ll post again when those are ready to view. We will also plan on having some kind of ‘open day’ in 2010 for people to come and look at the new facility.

We are to be found at 12 Braeburn Drive, Sockburn at the back of the Recall facility. We are open by appointment only however so please direct people to our website archives@ccc.govt.nz in the first instance. We can also be contacted on 941 8845 (Annabel) and 941 8641 (Eva).

We will be closed for the Christmas period – from Dec 24th until Jan 11th 2010.  We look forward to hearing from you in the new year and having more visitors out at our reading rooms!

Thanks

Annabel Armstrong-Clarke & Eva Sullivan
