Friday 19th September, 2008 is Suffrage Day – 115 years after women got the vote in New Zealand
Christchurch City Libraries has made a small offering to help celebrate Suffrage Day / White Camellia Day Friday 19 September.
They have published 15 brief political biographies of local women in council to their web site – originally produced for Christchurch’s “Women in the Council Chamber” exhibition, initiated and co-ordinated by Cr Anna Crighton in 2006.
The libraries blog post also lists other suffrage day events and resources – which includes Unsung Heroines – Biographies of Christchurch Women – Written to commemorate Women’s Suffrage Year, 1993 – an earlier library publication which has been digitised.
