Dr Alfred Charles Barker (1819-1873) was surgeon on board the Charlotte Jane, the first of the Canterbury Association ships to arrive in Lyttelton on 16 December 1850. Also well known as an amateur photographer, he created some of Canterbury’s earliest photographs. These are small selection of his large photographic collection which is held at Canterbury Museum.
